Peace and Freedom

The government seems to be going against itself with these new laws they want passed - mind you, Congress wants them passed. The Internet Censorship and Control bill, and the new Militia Bill that allows for taking any U.S. citizen into custody for reasons that equal that of having anything to do with terrorism. Now, I understand why, but this power is something that can be seriously abused. If they don't see how, they've clearly lost touch with the people, and have gotten too engrossed in their politics. Everything seems to be war to them now, and humanity in government has truly lost its way. The question 'Why can't we all just get along?' is a rather simple and childish one to people who don't see its point - It's serious. Why can't we? Yes, we're a violent species, but saying that it's by nature is to give in to weakness. We have control, we make choices. But these choices are many we don't take the time to contemplate and think through. How can we be smart and also irrational? By listening to emotions as a singular direction. We don't think our actions through because we think life is moving too fast, and that choosing later would make it a bad decision. This is untrue. Contemplation, and taking your time (which many consider to be hesitant) are good things. They help us to see the bigger picture. But right now Congress is deciding our freedom is too much of a liability, and that the U.S. itself is the new enemy, just because of terrorism. They're scared. They have all this responsibility to the people, and they're afraid of what these terrorists can do to us. This is not saying they're bad, or incompetent. However, there is a key theme here - power is something we all crave, and politicians are known for abusing it. These new bills are radical ways for them to have all this control. Again, I understand their uses, but I don't see why they can't simply do it in a way that doesn't attack our own people. Freedom is a double-edged sword, but there are better ways that we can go about doing this. Our own negativity and choices aren't very well thought through, considering America is wrought with constant division, and people in control don't seem to be making it better. Well, we can. While we still have the chance. We've evolved into people who have shown we don't need violence all the time to enjoy our lives. We have shown that we can certainly be peaceful, caring, even loving people. It's not impossible. It's actually good for us. War is unnecessary, considering we're killing our own species. It's childish. Some would say it's a way for us to show we're still good enough to be the top species, but is that what we should even be focusing on, as the "top species of the planet"?  Are we supposed to be worrying about our own safety because of a bill that allows the military to do as it will, because something appears to be in league with terrorism? I don't believe that's the problem here. I don't believe that is what Congress wants. I think they want more control over us, because they've lost touch with how to understand the people. This is obviously a problem, and thanks to them misunderstanding groups like Occupy (who only want a better world, like everyone else, and are doing it in the way they think is right) this is a matter of getting things set right in the most peaceful manner possible. If we don't work in peace, we will only be feeding into that negativity. Many people don't believe that peace gets anything done. They think of it as 'doing nothing'. That is not what peace is, at all. It's simply a lack of violence. Much like cold is a lack of heat, and probably nearly as complex in terms of physics. We can't attain peace unless we try working for it. I understand that the military is what gives us our freedom, but how can we diplomatically obtain peace if we react in terms of war? Why must we act out this way? Why can't we simply live with each other and enjoy our media and live in peace, and share it? Share intelligence. Share entertainment. Spread the love, not war!

Civilization, Part 1

I'm going to start out with my point of making this blog. I want to find a way to unify. Not just a city, not just a state, or even a country. My end goal (which I know many will consider impossible) is a general unity of the world. I'm not saying under one government. Not even a religion. I want it to be unbiased, but still beautiful. Careful, but still colorful. And I know I'm not alone. People want something they can trust. That won't steal from them, it won't even ask for anything in return. This can be viewed as a form of greed, but isn't that what our society has done to us? We've gotten to this point where we want, but giving back seems too daunting. We don't want to because we feel we've earned what we want. We choose to take, or ask for more - sometimes without realizing that work needs to be put in, and there are lessons to be learned. This doesn't apply to everyone. It's simply difficult to explain something of this nature in great detail without getting those who think only of themselves and having them get defensive. Yes, there is a great wrong being done in society today. No, there isn't a simple answer, except this, and many won't like it: We need to work together. The Great Depression wasn't just fixed by a President; despite how we view it, considering history. We (or, they) worked to bring it back. They being the working class. They being the people, working together and enduring hard times, because each other was all they had in those days. Today is different, yes. But we have even more opportunity - more jobs (that the pessimistic will deny) more chances at making even more jobs (that the lazy and greedy will deny) and a great chance to make our lives better, if we were to just work together. I notice a great deepening of a division between people; usually it is over a small and ignorant matter. Sometimes it looks like we crave independence. The chance to be unique outweighs our needs as a civilization to help one another and continue our survival. Many don't see the bigger picture, that we could do so much more together if we just change things and make our lives better. Each other's lives. Everyone's, eventually. Yes, I realize I sound like a child and that this seems like a simplistic dream. Well, that's not the point. It isn't going to be simple. It isn't going to be kind, and it is definitely not going to be easy. But it is worth it. Giving up our wants and desires - the things we crave most, that plague us, drive us to make irrational choices - getting rid of them is the first thing we must do. Emotion drives us towards the irrational, and yes, this is natural, but having the ability to choose is something we cannot put a price on. Choice is a gift, and a problem. A double-edged sword. Because while we can choose good, we can also choose bad, and depending on our feelings, or even just thoughts, a limited understanding, neglect...any factor can attribute to our choices, which makes us all the more unreasonable yet reasonable at the same time. If you're confused, my point is that we should at least strive for the choice that ensures our general survival as a whole. I don't mean just ourselves. I don't mean you. I mean US. All of us. The 7 Billion+ human existence, we should be able to accomplish so much more without having meaningless conflict between ourselves. It's petty. It's ignorant. In a phrase, it's a lack of understanding. We're still young as a whole, despite our accomplishments, there is so much more we can do. And together we can do this. I'm not talking about business. I'm not talking about religion, or anything of that nature. I'm talking about civilization. Making a true, unified choice. We are all, after all is said and done, human. No matter the color. No matter where we came from, no matter what, we are Human.
